Man–hunt on to nab the killer of Pathak
SILCHAR, November 23: Even after more than 24–hour of the brutal killing of Rajib Kumar Pathak, executive engineer of irrigation department, in the hill town of Haflong, there has been no information till now about the nabbing or arrest of the assailants, believed to be members of a militant group. A top police officer of Dima Hasao district said a massive combing operation by 25 Assam Rifles, 9 Madras Regiment and Assam Police Battalion in and around the town of Haflong, Bagetar and Mahur is on. He expressed his confidence that the killers would be in the security dragnet sooner or later.
The police official however denied the involvement of DHD action group despite claim by its publicity secretary Samrin Dimasa
owning the responsibility for the broad day light shooting to death of Rajib Kumar Pathak. He said the group has been identified and it is a matter of time that the killers are taken into custody. He refused to give details or identify the group. The probable escape routes have been brought under closer surveillance including the infamous Mahur route to Nagaland. He also ruled out the possibility of the involvement of NSCN (IM) in the incident.
A source from the district headquarters of Dima Hasao said that the real motive of the group was to extort money from Rajib Kumar Pathak and he was alerted about it and its consequences if he ignored the message. Pathak refused to bow down and was made the target like many other brave officers in the past. Source: The Sentinel
